KORNATI
Due to the exceptional natural beauty, great indentation of the island, preserved nature and rich marine ecosystem, most of the Kornati archipelago was declared a national park in 1980. Kornati National Park covers an area of about 220 km2, and within the park there are 89 islands and islets whose coastline is 185 km.
The Kornati archipelago is named after the largest island, the Kornat. The Adriatic Sea belongs to the group of the bluest seas in the world. However, the blue color of the sea of the Kornati archipelago is almost unreal.
The national park is an unavoidable destination for boaters, who can find refuge in fishing huts and in safe marinas on the islands of Žut and Piškera. To all other guests, travel agencies offer organized excursions, cruises…
KRKA
Springing at the foot of the Dinara, in the eastern part of the Knin field, it breaks through a magnificent canyon and flows into the Adriatic Sea near Šibenik. Krka is 72 km long. Due to its great natural, scientific and cultural value, it was declared a national park in 1985. Krka has seven waterfalls, the most famous of which are Skradinski buk, 45.7 m high, and Roški slap, 25.5 m high. The abundance of water also favors the growth of vegetation, so along the river we find about 200 species of Mediterranean and sub-Mediterranean plants.
Krka is one of the most beautiful and favorite resorts in Dalmatia. It attracts tens of thousands of visitors, who flock here by boat from Skradin or by road to Drniš with entrances to Lozovac and Roški slap.
PAKLENICA
On an area of 96m2, along the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea to the highest peaks of Velebit, Vaganski vrh (1757m) and Sveti brdo (1753m), there is an abundance of natural features and phenomena, for which the whole area was declared a National Park in 1949. This is a space of unique and unusual contact of sea and mountains, rich in beech and black pine forests, deep canyons vertically carved into the main ridge of Velebit, karst shapes, unique karst relief with numerous caves and pits.
The most attractive part of the National Park are the gorges of Velika and Mala Paklenica. This 400m high rock is also the most famous mountaineering point in Croatia. Within the National Park we can enjoy many beautiful waterfalls. The richness of the park consists of forests, which cover almost 2/3 of its surface. Here is located, the second largest in Europe, a reserve of black pine (Pinus nigra). The diversity of habitats has also provided refuge for many animal species. Here we can see one of the most endangered European birds, the griffon vulture (Gyps fulvas).
PLITVICE LAKES
PLITVICE LAKES - Plitvice Lakes were declared a national park in 1949, and it is the oldest and largest Croatian national park. They have been under the protection of UNESCO since 1979. They are located between Mala Kapela and Plješivica in Lika. They are 160 km away from Biograd.
Plitvice Lakes are a unique natural phenomenon - 16 lakes that are interconnected by numerous travertine waterfalls. The climate is mountainous, and the best time to visit the Plitvice National Park are the summer months, although in winter they provide an unforgettable picture with frozen waterfalls.
VEAL
Telašćica Bay is located in the southeastern part of the island of Dugi otok. Thanks to its exceptional beauty, richness and importance, this bay, surrounded by 13 islands and islets, and which also contains six islets within the bays, was declared a Nature Park in 1988. The area of the Telašćica Nature Park is an area rich in contrasts, quiet and peaceful beaches and a laid-back coastline on one side and wild steep cliffs on the other side, an area of alpine pine and holm oak forests on one side and bare rocky areas on the other. , but also the area of degraded forms of vegetation that cover dry habitats.
In the natural park it is possible to dive in several attractive places near the cliffs, and walk around interesting places, and the beautiful view from the Grpašćak viewpoint should not be missed.
VRANSKO LAKE
Between the two historically rich cities of Zadar and Šibenik is the largest natural lake in Croatia. As one of the rare, almost untouched natural habitats of waterfowl, with sources of drinking water and an area of distinctive specifics and biodiversity in 1999. Vrana Lake and the surrounding area have been declared a Nature Park.
The dominant feature of the park is the Special Ornithological Reserve, which due to its preservation, great biodiversity, exceptional scientific and ecological value since 1983. received this status and was included in the list of important ornithological areas in Europe (Important Bird Areas in Europe). Vrana Lake is an area with a great diversity of ornithofauna, so far 241 species of birds have been recorded, of which 102 species nest in the park area. Among the nesting birds, there are four endangered species at the European level and seven endangered species at the national level.
For some of these birds, Vrana Lake Nature Park is the only nesting place in the Mediterranean part of Croatia. The park area is also a very important resting and feeding ground for a whole range of European endangered species.
More than 100,000 waterfowl regularly come to winter. The climate in this area is typically Mediterranean. In addition to the "bird watcher", sport fishermen will find their quality rest and relaxation, and they can fish on the lake and its shores almost all year round.
Cyclists and lovers of walks will experience an indescribable experience on our 40km long bike path around the lake. Part of the trail offers you refuge in the freshness of a pine forest right next to the lake.
ZRMANJA
The river was named "beauty and the beast" because of the beautiful scenes in the summer when it resembles a sleeping beauty, and also a dangerous beast in the autumn and winter months at high water levels. The river in northern Dalmatia is 69 km long, with a strong source below the mountain Postak in the southern part of Lika, and flows into the Adriatic Sea 12 km from Obrovac. Zrmanja is 81 km away from Biograd.
Zrmanja abounds in perfectly warm water, beautiful canyons and waterfalls. Its crystal clear waters meander through a canyon up to 200m deep in which it has created travertine waterfalls, eg Big Beech as its greatest curiosity due to its extreme beauty and 11m height. It is suitable for swimming and diving because it has an interesting river flora and fauna, and because of its purity it is drinkable. With its strength and the strength of its tributaries, of which the Kupa should be singled out, Zrmanja has been making its way to the sea for thousands of years.
In its short course, Krupa has built approximately 19 waterfalls, most of which are among the most beautiful waterfalls in Croatia in terms of height and indentation. When Zrmanja swelled, it provided us with one of the best rafting in this part of Europe. And when it calms down, it is ideal for a canoe safari.
CAVES
Cerovačke pečine are located in Lika, 4 km from Gračac, so they are easily accessible by main roads from Zagreb or Zadar, Šibenik or Split. These are the most researched and the most beautiful tourist caves in Croatia in terms of the richness of natural decorations. The caves consist of numerous long corridors and large halls full of lakes, stalactites, stalagmites, pillars and crystals of wondrous shapes and colors.
The cave Strašna peć is an interesting tourist, ecological and historical destination, and is located near Sevr on Dugi otok, near the Telaščica Natural Park and the Kornati National Park. Of the several larger speleological objects in the National Park, the most beautiful is the Manita furnace in the lower part of Velika Paklenica. The entrance to the cave is also a beautiful lookout, and in the immediate vicinity is like a tower high and slender rock Zub or Maniti hip.
